Look at the button on the side- "L-Fn"

What will this allow? I'm hoping it will allow a wide range of functions to be set to the focus ring, like aperature, exposure, dial in different intensities for filter effects, etc. I have been waiting for years for them to take advantage of this- Samsung's NX system has, and even many compacts. They didn't need the button to do it, but I guess it may make it more intiutive.

Do you think this will be a common feature on future lenses?

In my EPM2 instructions, it is indeed a programmable function button.  I don't know what functions you can assign to it off the top of my head, but it is definitely programmable and acts like an additional function button on the camera.
