Came back to the X10
Aug 21, 2013

Strengths: Beautiful build for the eye and the hands. Gorgeous colors straight out of the camera. Wonderful in-camera raw conversion. Dynamic range far beyond its class. Weaknesses: No information in OVF (solved with X20). Steep learning curve if one wants to explore full capacities of hardware and software dynamic range settings. Now to my story: Last year I gave this camera a four star review. After seven months of shooting I sold it on auction and bought a mid range Nikon DSLR and three lenses. In some ways the photos were better, but in other ways not. I also tried a top tier Nikon compact camera for about 5,000 photos over four months. I just kept thinking about the X10 and how well it had worked for me last year. So this week I bought another one new, for a very good price. It is a beautiful-handling, compact, perfectly capable camera for what I do: family, travel, landscape, occasional seasonal nature. For its current, lower price I give it a 5.0 for value, and 4.5 stars overall.
