Why is the 45mm so popular?
2

I'm not an idiot, I know the 45mm is relatively cheap and fast, so those are two good reasons. But the focal length seems quite tight on m43 (90mm equiv). I've had zooms with less reach than that. I also owned a 50mm on an APS-C camera (80mm) which I found annoyingly tight for all but portraits.

So are people using the 45mm mostly/only for portraits? Or is it useful for other things I might not be considering?

I just ask because it seems "oddly" popular. Like as popular as a "standard" lens on other formats (50mm @ 35mm/25mm @ m43).
