The f4 IS has better optics with added versatility, plus it has IS to boost which will help you immensely when you are handholding whilst keeping the ISO low.

Don't listen to brightcolours, f5.6 on ff isn't even close for distant landscape, you'd need at least f8-f11. Diffraction is never an issue at those aperture. He has no idea of what he's talking about...
