What does the Airport Time Capsule 3TB actually do?
Aug 13, 2013

I am (finally) taking delivery of an iMac this week (coming from Windows). Considering backup alternatives I have read about the Airport Time Capsule 3TB model. But I must admit I do not quite understand the product. On the one hand it is a wireless storage device. On the other hand: “It’s also a fully featured Wi-Fi base station with the latest 802.11ac technology and simultaneous dual-band support” to quote Apple.

  1. What does that mean?
  2. Will it replace the wireless box my internet provider supplied?
  3. Or should it be plugged into that box?
  4. And does it then provide faster internet?
  5. And will my wife’s iPad also be able to have backup made automatically?

Sorry for all these questions, but I was most comfortable with computers when you could actually walk inside them

Btw I live in Belgium and use the biggest national provider Belgacom and their B-box product.

All input much appreciated – thanks in advance
