I started out using primes because I liked the optical quality you got for the price.  As I moved to L primes, it was mostly that I liked the low light abilities.  I agree that the bokeh is just about as good on the f/2.8 70-200L II as it is on any prime lens.  But those mark II zoom lenses are still more expensive than L primes.  I do wish I had them, though.  Sometimes the versatility would come in handy.
