Sigma 35mm f/1.4 at the Jersey Shore
Aug 11, 2013

Picked up the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 and shot with it for the last week. Pictures here are mostly wide-open or nearly so.

Impressions (mated to a D700):

It's fully usable wide open. It's heavy for a short prime. Focus is accurate with no stutter. Handles shooting into the sun nicely. Nice close-focus. It's great for environmental portraits, moody shots, subject isolation, that sort of thing. Notably, required a +16 focus calibration (for 3 ft test).

Subjectively, it's a blast to work with. You feel like you have endless aperture to work with, even though it's only two more stops than any 2.8 short zoom.

Comments welcome.
