That's more to cover RGB channel imbalance, I believe.

All we need is a proper RGB histogram like even $400 cameras have, to avoid killing hihlights in one channel or another.

Especially red channel is troubled but even with RGB curves there is no solution.

I haven't seen evidence that the R channel is any different to any of the others.  It's just easier to get the R channel to saturate because so much of what we look at (except in certain landscapes) seems to have a red predominance.
