New Nikkor 18-35 vs. Tokina 17-35 F4 -- Your Thoughts?
Aug 9, 2013

I have the Tokina 17-35 F4. It's an adequate lens that I purchased because there were too many compromises (vs. cost) to the other UWA offerings: 16-35 (not great at 16mm, where I use these lenses, big), 14-24 (narrow range, big and heavy, no filter rings), 16-28 Tokina (big and heavy, narrow range).

My main complaint with the Tokina is the corners, they never get very good. The new Nikkor 18-35, according to Photozone, appears to have better corner performance at wider F stops. My questions for those that have used both: (1) Does this technically better corner performance show up in images; and (2) are there any other differences worth noting?

In UWA zoom lenses, I most value the wide end, but having an upper range of 35mm helps reduce lens swapping, which is also useful.

I know this is ultimately my decision, but your input is appreciated.
