Can't calibrate Asus PB278Q monitor- Brightness too high
Aug 6, 2013

I was fortunate with my last monitor in that Calibrize gave me accurate prints (as compared to my monitor.

I just got this backlit LED monitor- Asus PB278Q - and three software programs including Calibrize  & window 7 can't get close as I can't get the brightness down far enough for the early steps.

I was reading the x-rite and spyder reviews and the negatives scare me a bit especially since the back light LED may be more difficult for these...I think. Now I'm wondering if this ASUS is more of a gaming monitor as it came without factory calibration. It was painfully bright and with high contrast.

I guess I have two questions:

Was this a bad choice for a photo/video monitor (my primary use)?

If the choice was OK will one of the hardware calibration gadgets work even if the menu brightness keeps the brightness high?

Thanks for any guidance. I am able to return the monitor if necessary but I have to move fast on this.
