Nope - 649 after rebate

Ouch, is there really any big difference between the old and the new version?

from reviews I've read, the older model has terrible autofocus. This one has a USM which is supposed to alleviate this. New model also has VC, though not sure how effective it is on a macro lens. New apparently got a boost in sharpness according to dxomark. Last, it's internal focusing, so it doesn't extend the barrel when going into the macro range. Sounds like it's worth the cost, if you can stomach the price.

You can read the review here -

How has the lens held up as a portrait lens? I have been eyeing this lens, along with the nikon 1.8g. The nikon 1.8 is apparently the "ultimate" portrait lens, but this tamron is intriguing b/c I could use it for both portraits and macro work.

I can stomach the cost, it'll just take a while more until I plan to get it. Haha

So I just read and watched up on some articles/videos and it had said that the 90mm is mainly geared for Fx cameras. Is this true? The video stated that the Tamron 60mm is much better for Dx cameras such as the D3100, can anyone verify that?
