There is no such thing as a bad new digital camera in 2013.

There seems to be a lot of bellyaching & agonizing over meaningless technical minutae and feature content on cameras. I am only turning 30 this year, but based on paper specs it seems like the equipment we have now is better than ever?

5 years ago shooting at ISO3200 and getting anything clean was a pipe dream, aside from the absolute best FF DSLRs. There was no Sony NEX. A lot of things we take for granted now did not exist.

10 years ago you could count the number of DSLRs available on 2 hands.  Performance compared to today was not even worth talking about. Seriously. A D2H cost ~$3,000 in 2000 (equivalent to $4,000 today) and gets handily destroyed by modern point and shoots. Many of which, combined with phones, folks deem "unsuitable for photographic use"

15 years ago there were a handful of point and shoots that had tiny sensors that were pretty much useless above ISO100, and mindblowingly expensive. Memory was mindblowingly expensive Shooting film still made more sense.

20 years ago, there were no digital cameras.

You look at lists of "the greatest photographers of all time", most of them were shooting well before the digital age, with equipment that would make DPR's staunchest technophiles retch and vomit. B-B-BUT HOW COULD THEY SHOOT WITH SUCH INFERIOR EQUIPMENT? WHERE ARE THE MTFS? I WANT TO PIXEL PEEP!!!! They relied on insignificant subjective attributes like composition, telling stories, having an eye for good photos etc. So to me it's downright bizarre that in a time where a $100 throwaway P&S can handily outperform flagship DSLRs of 10, 12, 13 years ago, the complaints about equipment seem more voluminous and vociferous than ever.

Can we stop obsessing over things that matter, appreciate how good we have it and just take some pictures????
