If I have the time I'll try directly comparing the 18-55 and 18-135.

With the exception of some macro shots, most of the photos in my gallery were taken with the 18-135. I don't think I bothered to apply distortion correction to any of them shot above 18mm. Overall I'm happy with the image quality (even if not all the photos turned out exactly how I wanted).

Here's a recent butterfly snap, shot at 135mm (where Kurt Munger found the lens to be at its worst for sharpness) and stopped down slightly to F6.3:

That's heavily cropped from the centre of the photo, and was significantly underexposed, so was brightened/noise reduced in Lightroom. It's probably not showing this lens at its best, but I'd still say that comparably cropped images taken with my 18-55 seemed to turn out worse.
