The type of scene where the 16mm is likely to be used will rarely demand a wide open aperture with a smaller depth of field, and its performance is great when stopped down a little.

The Nex images in Fred Miranda's site regularly include a 16mm shot interspersed among those taken with 'crons, 'luxes, CVs  and the like; I have often looked to see what lens was used, thinking some high-end number was responsible, only to read the 16 had been used.

Such 'blind' tests are revealing.
