This may be slightly off-topic and even commonplace but I think it's useful to wake up from our high-tech dreams sometimes. Here's proof that you don't need the latest and greatest technology to take fantastic photos. Here is a fellow Hungarian amateur photographer who has taken many truly great nature photos with a lowly, old and cheap Panasonic FS10. Check them out, the gallery is an eye-opener.

Note: I do realise that the thread title may be a bit extreme; I know that there are things a DSLR does much better than a compact digicam, especially in fields of photography other than this guy's favourite area.  But I do think that dedication is a more important ingredient than equipment.
