It's your photographs, your camera and your money. If you only want to use one lens then do so.

I am always puzzled by these threads where people ask what lens so they should use.

If your photography only requires the use of one lens and you're happy to use a fixed focal length then why not ?

In the film days when most SLR cameras were supplied with a 50mm lens as standard it was very common to see people walking around with just the SLR and standard lens.

If you find it restrictive then later on when you can afford it you can get a different focal length. That's the advantage of interchangeable lens cameras.
