Hello,

I use my Oly EP L2 mainly for travel and I have the 14 - 42 & 40 - 150, the last one a great lens, every picture I take with it has great focus and contrast, makes beautiful pictures...but it gets used not that often because of being a long lens. The kit 14 - 42, it is just Ok, but really, doesn't produce great shots, I mean sharp and contrasty. I don't want to go the prime route (I know SIGMAS 19 & 30 are a good option) due to missing shots and the pana 12 - 35 is out of the equation, too expensive...So, what do you use as reasonable kit lens for travel.

The 12-50mm, some think its softer than the Olympus 14-42 and Pany 14-45.

In truth its better than the 14-42, and the Pany 14-45 is only very slightly better (its really barely noticeable)

For its sharpness and features the 12-50mm should be on your short-list.

As a self confessed "pixel peeper" I just came back from a 2 week cruise to Iceland and Norway, with a 12-50 and a 40-150. I am extremely impressed with both these lenses. Originally I had the 14-42 which was horrible. Upgraded to the panny 14-45 which was great. The 12-50 is IMO as good plus macro is superb and weather sealed to. A no brainier if there ever was one. Still I may just be tempted to go for the oly 12-40 f2.8 as and when it appears and I can afford it.
