In low contrast areas can I get in camera flash help me to see focus peaking? If not maybe ad on flash or any other aids like focus assist light?

NEX 6 + 50mm 1.4 canon fd

Focus assist light of the external flashes do not work with Nex and built-in focus assist light does more harm than good, at least for AF. Can't remember if the "internal" focus assist light stays on if one uses DMF on Nex

So one pretty much have to use something completely external from Nex to get any assist for focusing, not very convenient on the field, but I use IR controlled led light to assist MF when I'm doing motion stop photography on my batcave type, matte black home theater room.

Thank you

I marked your reply as an answer to my question "NEX 6 focus peaking assisted from flash?" and the answer is no.

It is unfortunate that Sony deliberately disabled AF Illuminator function for all NEX cameras including NEX 7 probably in the firmware? ( I am not an expert). If you want AF Illuminator function you have to get big and bulky.
