In low contrast areas can I get in camera flash help me to see focus peaking? If not maybe ad on flash or any other aids like focus assist light?

NEX 6 + 50mm 1.4 canon fd

Focus assist light of the external flashes do not work with Nex and built-in focus assist light does more harm than good, at least for AF. Can't remember if the "internal" focus assist light stays on if one uses DMF on Nex

So one pretty much have to use something completely external from Nex to get any assist for focusing, not very convenient on the field, but I use IR controlled led light to assist MF when I'm doing motion stop photography on my batcave type, matte black home theater room.

internal orange light comes on in M mode but is not strong enough to start focus peaking.

IR controlled led light source is a good idea. I will search for it.

Maybe I mount a small video light on the camera in low light before shooting stills.

Thank you

Correction: internal orange light comes on in M mode only on my Sony 16-50mm but not with Canon 50mm FD lens.
