I'm saving up for a field camera that I will hopefully buy in 3-4months time. I'm figuring out how to use my NEX as a digital back for it and your solution looks very captivating. Please excuse and correct me if I've misunderstood the workings :-

1) The NEX has a sensor size of 2.34cm x 1.56cm = an area of 3.65 cm^2

2) A large format system has an equivalent sensor size of 10.16cms x 12.7cms = 129.03 cm^2.

3) To cover the entire area of the light coming in from the large format lens, the NEX will have to take >= 36 pictures (129.03/3.65).

4) Using the slide adapter (I'm assuming the horizontal markings in the adapter are in millimeterss), in landscape mode, we can take 3 pictures in (70mm/23.4mm) without shift.

5) This would leave us requiring a further 36/3 = 12 combinations of rise/fall & left/right shifts of 3*1.56cms = 4.68cms each, assuming constant tilt.

The end result should be about 4912*sqrt(36) = 29472 pixel wide & 19584 pixel long picture or a 577 megapixel image!
