Previously you'd have to shell out $5000 for such a setup: 36MP Nikon D800 plus Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens (no IS). To get 200mm (actually 198mm) you crop down to 4.5MP which is just enough resolution to print 8x10 at 240 ppi (and obviously more than sufficient for digital use).

Now the Sony A79 will have a 32MP sensor, and when paired with the 16-50mm f/2.8 lens will allow exactly 24-200mm equivalent focal length by cropping down to 4.5MP. Existing24MP sensor cameras only allowed you to reach 173mm by cropping. The camera will of course retain Sony's invaluable IS and figures to be priced similarly to the A77 ($2000 for the camera plus lens bundle). That's a 60% drop from what you had to pay previously.
