The 1.6x would only apply to the center of the frame, which is always the sweet spot. The corners are what suffer.

The pixel size of a 75 MP FF sensor would be the same as the pixel size of a 29 MP 1.6x sensor. Whether or not the corners suffer is another matter all together, but, as I've said many times before, it doesn't really make sense to talk about corners if they are outside the DOF, and when we compare FF to 1.6x at the same DOF, the corners of FF generally come out ahead.

Wrong on both counts.

The gratest criticism of the 16-35 (1 and 2) is that it suffers from soft corners.

The Nikon 14-24G had legendary status for it's corner sharpness (even at 24 mpx) until the D800 came along and revealed softness in corners.

The reason the TSE17 has received such rave reviews is because it is so sharp corner to corner.

The Nikon 70-200 VR1 ot glowing reviews on 1.5x crop cameras, but revealed soft edges and vignetting on FF.
