Something else.

I think that using the same lens removes the possibility of any criticism that two different lenses were not calibrated identically (or manufactured identically or handled and cared for identically). Just in terms of the art of debate, the adapter would be the weaker of the two criticisms. Using the same lens is the unique feature of this cross platform comparison.

I can't remember which Zeiss it is but I have a ZF version that focuses on infinity before the infinity mark on my D3x. So, not everything is perfect with a native mount. The end result for infinity shooting with this lens that shall remain unrmembered is still outstanding. I always liked the hard stop at infinity on MF lenses but for this comparison, I wished I could have rocked focus in front of and beyond infinity as I was able to with the adapter on the Canon.
