Every Epson printer that I've ever owned had its heads clog up and become useless. HP and Canon put their print heads on the ink cartridges.

Certainly in the olden days, Epson printers did clog, even with larger nozzle sizes.  However, certainly for the past 4+ years, none of my Epsons (dye and pigment - both with high quality compatible inks) have suffered any clogs - even when left for (due visits to family in UK) 3 or more weeks at a time.  I just cover the printhead with some kitchen clingfilm (food wrapping) and the printer works fine when home again.  I understand that all modern Epsons have coated nozzles - something like non-stick Teflon used for cooking utensils.  My Canon i9500 certainly did clog, regularly, until it ceased to work altogether - just out of warranty of course and not many prints done either.  The repair costs quoted by Canon were so high - I bought an Epson 1400 for around half the cost which would have included carriage to and from Madrid - not inexpensive!  Anyone want it - with lots of inks and a CIS (new as are the inks) as it sits unloved.  Wasn't a patch (anyway) in terms of photo output compared to the Epsons, hence me not really being that interested.  Just cannot get myself to chuck it on the local tip.
