More like early 2000's, I'd say

higher Mp camers say in the 50 to 100 or more won't be about the individual pixel importance but more about maximizing the micro contrast and detail at the limits of the lenses combined with your output medium size.

I stand corrected.

So, if I've got it straight, we're talking about a pixel pitch of somewhere around 2 - 2.5um. Forgive me for quoting actual numbers, but I make the all-importance green-light MTF about 1% at Nyquist for a perfect lens at f/8 when combined with a sensor of 2.3um pitch. So I wonder what that 1% contrast ratio means in terms of micro-contrast, or detail for that matter?

On my Sigma SD9 (3.4 MP) that same perfect lens at f/8 gives an MTF of 69% at Nyquist, so I must be missing something . .
