Why should I keep large photo sizes any more?
Jul 20, 2013

I'm in the process of rearranging my travel blog photo workflow, and I have ended up rethinking some very basic photo issues.

To get to the point, here is my basic photography use scenario:

  • I'm not a pro
  • All my photos are for the web
  • I can't remember the last time I printed one of my own photos
  • No one else has *ever* printed one of my photos

Given all that, I am led to wonder why I would ever need to keep original photos at the sizes my cameras tend to spit out? I'm considering downsizing all of them to maximum widths of 1920px or so.

Before I do this seemingly drastic step, is there something I may be missing? I just can't seem to find a valid reason to keep hundreds of gigabytes of photos at 5,000+ pixel widths...
