The real advantage, IMHO, of the 35mm is the speed of the lens.  At max f1.4, it's possible to shoot subjects using available light w/o boosting ISO values. Even the 18-55mm, while relatively fast for a zoom lens, is no where near fast enough for that.  For Landscape photography, the zoom should be more than adequate.
