I have gotten third party custom ICC files made with fine art paper using the Matt media setting to print the color targets with and have not gotten print head strikes. This also eliminates the margin. Most papers are fine. Some block up the shadows quicker.

I really don't need somebody in Japan determining what a "Fine Art" print should look like for me. Art is anything you want it to be...margin or no margin.

If they are worried about all the complaints from novices that don't know any better than to feed curled paper through the printer then give the rest of us the ability to turn off the margins at our own risk.

I do agree with you.

This printer was originally marketed to the serious amateur and not the inexperienced printer.

The fact that it is available so cheaply has definitely attracted a whole new "crowd" of users.

We of course know how to handle thicker papers and how to avoid problems.

Canon apparently does not trust our abilities.

We'll have to see what future firmware upgrades will bring.
