Thom Hogan: Canon "shot itself in the chest"
Jul 13, 2013

He really destroyed Canon this time for refusing to sell or service in the U.S. the single additional lens it finally announced nearly a year after the EOS M, and he called out the EOS M for not in fact being a system camera at all. What Canon has done here is pretty indefensible; they sold a camera under the premise that those who bought it would later be able to add future lenses and other accessories to create a legitimate photography system, and now they're reneging on that implied promise.

This is exactly the same thing that Canon fanatics love to trash Olympus for doing with 4/3, yet if you compare the 4/3 system to EOS M it flat out blows it away considering how many cameras, lenses, and accessories there are, and now Canon looks to be basically giving up on the system except in Japan. A total bush league move that ought to really tick off anyone who has invested in any Canon gear. The most hilarious part of Canon's epic fail of a mirrorless system is that no less than Ken Rockwell once dared to proclaim the EOS M as the world's first professional mirrorless system camera. The crow is on the plate and about to be served, Kenny!
