Is sharpness important?
Jul 12, 2013

Recently we have been reading more and more about relative sharpness. It seems to be a obsession with digital photography.

To this end I would like to ask what your opinion is to try and find out if it is a minority of enthusiast photographers making a lot of noise about it, or is it an across the board requirement for modern photography?

Sharpness is very important to me, I choose cameras/lenses primarily by their sharpness attributes. I find I am pixel peeping at every opportunity, checking absolute sharpness.

I am equally impressed by sharpness as by other attributes such as DOF, Dynamic Range and Resolution. I find it very useful for prints and cropping to have good sharpness.

I have no great interest in sharpness, I view all my pictures at screen res and don't really pixel peep, nor print large, so sharpness is not an issue.
