Jeff,

I'm not familiar with a Nik filter. Could you explain what they are?

Jack

Sure. Nik has a series of software packages on the market that do a very good job with specific actions, like sharpening, B&Wconversions, noise reduction, etc. Google bought them a while back. Here's a link http://www.niksoftware.com/nikcollection/usa/intro.html

The $149 package deal sounds expensive, but it's great compared to where they were pre-Google. They can be used as LR plugins, which is my preferred method.  Some of it duplicates builtin LR functionality, so I tend to use the Nik for special cases.

Snapseed was produced by Nik software.  I'm not sure if to what extent Snapseed actually incorporates the earlier technologies, but am giving them a try based on my experience with Nik. Wish I could say something more concrete about Snapseed, but don't have enough specific experience to offer a useful opinion.

You don't make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.” -- Ansel Adams
