Is Canon discontinuing the EOS M for the US market?
Jul 11, 2013

Amid all the buzz about the $299 deal on the M + 22/2, I'm surprised there's not much worry among US buyers whether Canon USA is actually killing off the M for the US market.

First of all, I'm pretty sure the EOS M line will go on, because Canon just released the EF-M 11-22mm UWA lens. Canon retailers in Japan, Australia, Europe, and Canada all seem to have the lens available for sale starting today. Canon USA, on the other hand, actually made it clear that the new lens WILL NOT be sold in the US:

Why would Canon decide not to sell a new lens that looks to be an excellent product in one of its biggest market? Plus the $299 deal that looks like they're clearing out remaining inventory points to the possibility that EOS M is done in the US, but will continue to be available elsewhere.
