RX100 Corner Softness - comparison with other premium compacts
4

A lot has been said about corner softness of the RX100 at wide angles, which is caused by distortion correction (a consequence of shoehorning a 1" sensor into a pocketable camera). It's not an issue for some, but for others (me included) it is.

So I thought it would be an interesting exercise to compare the RX100 with other premium compact cameras. I've done this courtesy of the test shots over at Imaging Resource, taking all the test shots at widest aperture and widest angle. At 20MP the RX100 sensor is a much higher resolution than the others shown here (10-12MP), so I've scaled it down using 'Bicubic- Sharper (best for reduction)' to a comparable size.

Make sure you click on the image to show it at 100%.
