Anyone use this lenses? If so, how would you rate it?

I'm thinking of getting it for high school football & basketball....or other sports.

Thanks!

It's a great lens. I use it for baseball under the lights. [In daylight I prefer the reach and lighter weight of my Canon 100-400L.]

It is heavy and expensive but it's in a class by itself in offering a 2.8 zoom with 300mm reach. The HSM focus motor is fast and silent.

Because I do only use it for night games I have very few shots that aren't taken at very high ISOs with my Canon 1D4. And they're all wide open or at f3.2. Here are a few examples.

Lowest ISO shot I could find - ISO 1600 - 220mm at f3.2

ISO 6400 - 300mm at f2.8

ISO 10,000 at f2.8

269mm

ISO 12,800 at f2.8

269 mm

This is a pretty extreme crop of a 300 mm shot.

Somehow I stripped the EXIF from this one but I think it's ISO 12,800 and close to 120mm.

Of course my 1D4 is a 1.3 crop camera so 300mm is an effective focal length of 390mm. So it's too long for me to use for basketball. It should work fine though on your D600. It is a very heavy lens though and it will be a workout to shoot a basketball game with it. [I shoot basketball with either a 70-200/2.8 or an 85/1.8 prime.]

Questions?

Very nice shots.  Thanks for posting.  Do you use a monopod?
