White balance vs color correction
Jul 8, 2013

Hi all,

Somewhat of a newb question: is white balance just a subset of color correction?

I am using color checker by xrite, and learning lightroom color correction work. The white balance is effected by the temperature of the light, while the color balance is effected by the shape of the lights energy spectrum in addition to the temperature of the light. So, in theory by doing color correction and reconstructing the object colors by factoring out the lights energy spectrum we are also factoring out the lights energy spectrum average value which is the temperature. I can see how adjusting the lights energy spectrum average value (the temperature) one can warm up or cool image and produce creative effects; but for the purpose of sheer accuracy wouldn't color correcting the image (x-rite color checker) also automatically temperature correct it (white balance)?

Thanks ahead
