Help! Ant infestation!
Jul 7, 2013

Hi All,

Any advice would be much appreciated here.

Currently in Thailand and heading to Myanmar in a couple of days.

You can imagine my horror when I unzipped my bag to see my D800 moving!! It was absolutely covered in ants.....

I managed to shake them all off from the camera and bag, but an hour or so found that a number (50 or so) had settled behind the viewfinder (ie inside the camera!), obscuring half of the view. There appeared to be some white lavae too (though would they have been able to lay eggs in a hour or so?).

Either way I now do now really know what to do. I'm miles from anywhere so can't really visit a camera shop this moment. Is there anything I can do to get them out?

1. Put the camera in a freezer !? (ok, maybe not)

2. get the sun shining into the view finder to kill them?

My worst nightmare would be getting to Myanmar at the end of the week and then my camera dies on me....

Do you think If I managed to find a camera shop in Bangkok they'd be able to sort this out? In a few hours? By taking it to a non-Nikon shop I imagine it would invalidate the warranty though? (1.5 years to go...).

Ahhh - nightmare!! Any ideas???
