It's definitely possible that there are variations in different cameras.  Of course, I'm as blind as a bat without my glasses (and I do have astigmatism) but these things are usually pretty easily corrected.  My brother-in-law had the cataract surgery and it was pretty in-and-out and it mostly took care of the problem. 
I understand you recently acquired the 5D3; any different in the viewfinder than the 5D2?  Look forward to hearing your perspective on this - your posts tend to be honest and no-nonsense.
