Any alternative to Photoshop for truely non destructive editing?

The problem with using Nik plug-ins in Lightroom is that a copy of the original raw file has to be made. In that sense, the editing is non-destructive because the raw image is still intact. But I prefer to do my Nik adjustments in Photoshop because they are applied as layers (haven't used them as smart filters yet) and I can remove the layer if I need to. I still prefer doing my initial adjustments with Lightroom and then send the image to Photoshop to do my finish work when necessary.
