Nikon like to lose the edge in innovation
Jul 2, 2013

It has happened again: Canon have launched a dslr with on-sensor AF that promises to deliver excellent performance. Nikon already had a great system in the almost 2 year old Nikon 1 system and many, I included, had thought that system would be already part of their dslr cameras by now.

It has happened before, when they launched the first dslr with video (D90) but soon after lost the technological edge to Canon (with the 5D2, a huge success, in part because of its video capabilities), and then to Panasonic (m43 cameras).

For those that have used the V1 etc, it's a huge positive point the ability to focus fast and accurately. It had the drawback to fall back to contrast detecting focus in low light, an issue that Canon seemingly have solved.
