Nice to hear from you.

One question. It would be nice to build a photon counter with e.g. a 12 bit counter register in each pixel, for e.g. 16 MP. Has anyone made an estimate if this is possible or not?

The main doubt I have regarding your 1 bit pixel (jot) idea is that it gets LOTS of data. With a 12 bit counter you can represent 4000 levels. I know that the 1 bit sensor is non linear, but still ... it sounds like 100 times the amount of data to get the same gradiation.

I think the main problem is that a 12b counter takes a lot of circuit area and BSI is not going to solve that problem.  I am not sure what the advantages are of having the counter in the pixel.  We already know having an ADC per pixel is only useful for certain applications.  Assuming the count rate per pixel is the same with the counter in or out of the pixel, how do you see the counter helping with the data rate?
