What does the 85mm f1.8 offer apart from portraits?

Great photos Mach! What a view from that truck stop.

All Nikon 85mm lenses seem to be so good! That people including me use them when ever they can, for anything! They just create great photos, and the 1.4,s add additional fun with their extremely small depth of field. No ED, or moulded aspheric glass, Just state of the art optical glass! Lovely! I think 85mm must be in the goldie-locks zone, between spherical aberrations of wider lenses and chromatic aberrations of longer lenses. John.
