Verifiable and Reliable Communications
In reply to quadrox, Jun 28, 2013

(IMO), email communications represent a vastly preferrable mode of communications relative to PMs.

PMs have no date/time stamp affixed - and no way to determine whether they have either been reliably transmitted or recieved within the DPReview computer systems.

The text with a PM can be copied/pasted to a text file - but all they are is text of unknown origin.

The users' PM interface relating to communications with a specific correspondent contain only a finite number of entries in a message-stack. Exceed that number, and the PM just disappears.

PMs are by DPR's definition private communications - the contents of which cannot be disclosed by DPR without the express permission of the person who transmitted those PM communications:

The Web Site contains ... message ... facilities on the Web Site (collectively the "Services") designed to enable you to communicate with others. ...

For your content for the Services that you post on the Web Site and designate for Private Access Only, the license grant to us referenced earlier in this paragraph shall not apply ...

(b) "Private Access Only" shall mean ... content of private messages between Web Site members.

Sharing the content of private messages on the forums without permission is not allowed.

Furthermore, DPR appears to state that they take no responsibilty for, and hold themselves harmless from all liability arising out of, the content of any and all Private Messages transmitted to any and all DPR members by any persons who are not themselves paid DPReview staff members.

The Web Site contains ... message ... facilities on the Web Site (collectively the "Services") designed to enable you to communicate with others. ...

... We take no responsibility and assume no liability for any content for the Services posted by you or any third party.

Thus, according to DPReview own terms and conditions of site usage, PMs between members appear to be confidential communications that DPReview staff takes no responsibility for the contents of.
