After going through several still cameras, I think I may need a dedicated camcorder for great video.

I’m personally sort of jazzed about that new Blackmagic pocket cinema camera and frankly I’m not entirely sure just why it seems so exciting. Bigger sensor than most camcorders, but smaller than a DSLR and Micro 4/3’s; right?

Yes, slightly smaller than the 4/3 sensor. It will have a crop factor of about 3x.

The BMPCC is exciting for these reasons:

- Lossless CinemaDNG RAW and Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) at 1920 x 1080

- Dynamic Range: 13 stops

- Lens Mount: Active MFT

- Metadata Support: Automatic camera data and user data such as shot number, filenames and keywords.

- Price: $995

Oh, yeah, it shoots RAW video.. I’m Googling it now and recalling why it’s a big deal. Still, interested to see real-world results of the RAW video vs. a much larger sensor’s quality. They do make it sound cool for sure!

ANY camera shooting RAW Video at this price point is revolutionary.

Why is RAW a big deal?  For the same reason raw for still shooting is a very big deal.
