Noticing:

1) The claimed improvements are measured from the actual sensor instead of theoretical. That means they must have at least prototype sensors and concept has been proven. Moving from lab to mass production could present some challenges. But isn’t that exactly why Panasonic got involved in the first place? Now that they have made announcement of the joint development, they must have also gone beyond fabrication stage, too.

2) It makes no sense to let competition know your core secret, and tell your customers to hold off purchasing your products already on shelf, while new technology is still years before getting to the market. It seems to me that the news release was rather a way of commercial promotion already.

So it shouldn't be too far away.

If the improvements touted turn out to be true, this new technology could turn the trend of sensor size in favor of smaller form factor. m43 could become mainstream.

I'm quite certain that there are many, many of us who hope your are correct. This sensor, if it performs as claimed, is a true game-changer. And the greedy part of me wants a global shutter, as well.

No Signature.

Maybe with this sensor that will be easier to implement.
