Going back to a crop sensor

I read this person's blog

http://www.extremeinstability.com/topic-full-frame.htm

and found it really interesting. For their purposes, a crop sensor is better for them. It got me thinking how seductive the whole full frame ideal is.

It does seem as described, that it necessitates the use of more expensive lenses to get the same quality as cheap lenses on the crop. Maybe necessitates is too strong, maybe seduces is correct.

Does anyone else agree that buying a full frame body with even fairly decent lens like the 17-40L could be a step down in image quality based on the full frame using more of the soft edges and more vignetting as described in the blog?
