Hi guys,

I used to do some portrait/studio shoot with 50 1.8II on my old 40D. Now that I have the 5DIII, my 50 1.2L is perhaps slightly too wide for my tastes. I do have the 100 2.8L and also 70-200 2.8L IS, but the former is a bit too tight while the latter is a bit too heavy!

I'm thus considering getting an 85, but can't justify spending $2000 for the 1.2L since I don't do portraiture often enough. But I'm want to know if the IQ that I'll get with 85 1.8 on 5DIII will be at least as good as what I used to get on my 40D with 50 1.8II.

I suppose it'll be hard finding someone who's used these exact combos, but perhaps someone can comment on the IQ of 85 1.8 on 5DIII?

Thanks!

The IQ of 85mm F1.8 is really very good. I have used it with my 5DII. The best result is around F5.6. Despite it does not have circular aperture, the bokeh is still very pleasant.
