Oh...the hidden costs of a 500 f/4 II...
Jun 21, 2013

Well I have finally done it, layed down the $$$ for a lovely new 500 f/4II.

Of course the catalogue (only) says $10,715 (only!), but this is barely the beginning...

New Gimbal head $350...

Plate to mount too Gimbal $110...

Must have new tripod, afterall who wants to keep swapping heads? Naturally it has to be CF to save a few ounces as the glass is so damn heavy  $400...

Plus must have a monopod (again CF) and head for travelling $240...

Must have a lens coat for camaflouge not to scare the animals (and to avoid looking like a real tosser with a huge white lens) $120...

Plus a Really Right Stuff low profile foot (now why did I buy the Gimbal plate first) $178...(inc P&H)

Plus a new Lowepro Vertex 200 to fit the lens $400...

Plus a brand new holiday for the SO to justify the expense...$20,000

Total cost: $32,335.

You not kidding when people say super telephotos ain't cheap!

Ummm...wonder what I left out?

Regards
Stephen
