Since the RAM slots and HDD bay in the non-Retina MBP are user-serviceable, neither the extra RAM nor a SSD (that replaced the internal HDD) would need to come from Apple.  You might want to keep that in mind in price calculations.

Then again, the Retina MBP has other advantages (multiple external display support, less weight to lug around) in its favor.
