Soap bubbles and strange rendering of edges

Hi all,

Here's a picture I made with a NEX-5 and a manual lens, and while checking if I got the bubble sharp (apparently not so much) I noticed a strange rendering of the areas around the top edge of the bubble. This appears similarly on other bubble shots from the same evening.

Could anyone explain what is the reason for this? The only explanation that I can think of is that as the bubble moves and changes shape, its surfaces produce some micro splashes and they're so thin that the sensor gets fooled and can't render the area properly.. Not sure if that makes any sense I would appreciate a rational answer.

100% crop - enhanced a bit to emphasize the behaviour

Thanks
