As you say, Canon does recommend the use of a filter on some of their lenses to be more dust and weather resistant. I've never seen a similar statement from Panasonic. I looked at the manual for the 12-35, and it does have a few precautions about dust-proof and splash-proof, but a filter isn't one of them.

i aks because this is a requirement to seal some Canon L lenses I own which extend on zoom like the 24-105L.
